Tandemonium 2022 – Teaming up to celebrate WA Bike Month!

October was WA Bike Month and WATCAC joined Western Australia’s cycling community to celebrate big time!  The Western Australian Tandem Cycling Advisory Council (WATCAC) hosted its second tandem muster, supported by the WA Department of Transport and WestCycle. Emphasizing the accessibility of tandem cycling, it was an open invitation extended to all comers. The event was made possible by Perth’s blind and vision-impaired tandem cycling community.

Enthusiasm Trumps Weather for Tandem Clinic

Originally planned for July, our clinic for new front (pilots) and back (stokers) riders was delayed to late August due to the winter peak of COVID-19 infections.  Despite some lingering winter showers on the day, it was a great roll-up for our training session, sharing tandem riding hints and skills among new and experienced riders.

SteLa Tandem Ride Perth Beginning the Downunder Leg of Global Cycling Challenge

Stevie Massey and Laura Massey-Pugh, sighted UK tandem cyclists, have started the Australian leg of their ongoing global cycling challenge in Perth. Delayed by 48 hours after being hit by a motorcycle in Malaysia, they were briefly hosted by members of the WA Tandem Cycling Advisory Council (WATCAC), a local charity supporting blind and vision-impaired cycling. It was time to fit a new chain and tyres then it was on their way. They are looking forward to quieter stretches of open country for the next 33 days and 5600 km to Brisbane.
