On a sunny November Sunday WATCAC proudly fielded 11 tandem teams in the inaugural Perth Coastal Bike Ride. Our team included 10 blind, blind/deaf, or vision impaired cyclists, and we covered every distance on offer —100km, 80km, 60km, and 40km, and even some we made up ourselves.
Other members spent the morning at our stall at the Event Village, sharing their tandem cycling experiences and handing out information on bookmarks created for this event. We also managed a radio interview with 89.7FM Perth, who were broadcasting from the Event Village.
It was a fun, hot, and sometimes challenging day that brought a lot of attention to our little association.
In addition, the Perth Coastal Bike Ride had a charity component, and WATCAC’s team raised over $575 for Canteen Australia.
WATCAC was able to support event registration through the WADSA (WA Disabled Sports Association) Member Club Support grant. Our heartfelt appreciation goes to WADSA for helping to make this possible.
