Last Sunday morning a group of eager cyclists gathered in Karawara to discover the joy of riding a bicycle built for two. They came in pairs and on their own – some keen to get back into cycling after vision loss made it impossible to ride on their own and others ready to volunteer at the front of the tandem. And then there were the WATCAC members standing ready to coach and cajole and share their tandem cycling experiences.

After a quick orientation to the tandem bike and some discussion around what goes where and just who is in charge, it was out onto the track for the practical part of the day. Starts, turns and stops were communicated and executed skilfully in unison.

With quite a few participants eager to continue their tandem cycling journey WATCAC plans to hold a group ride next Sunday to welcome our new tandem cyclists.
